🛒 What You’ll Need:

  • Organic Giant Italian ‘PT’ Turnip seeds

  • Open ground, raised beds, or large containers

  • Peat-free compost or fertile, well-drained soil

  • Watering can and garden tools

🌿 Growing & Care Instructions

1. Sowing (Best Mar–May or Jul–Sep)

  • Sow direct into prepared soil.

  • Make drills 1–1.5cm deep, spaced 30cm apart.

  • Sow seeds thinly, then lightly cover and water.

2. Germination

  • Germinates in 5–10 days.

  • Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged during germination.

3. Thinning

  • When seedlings are 5–7cm tall, thin to 15–20cm apart.

  • Use thinnings in salads — they are mild and delicious!

4. Growing On

  • Keep weed-free and water regularly, especially in dry periods.

  • Apply a light mulch to retain moisture and keep roots cool.

5. Feeding (Optional)

  • If soil is poor, apply an organic vegetable feed once or twice during growth.

  • Avoid high-nitrogen feeds to prevent overly leafy growth.

6. Harvesting

  • Harvest when roots are fully formed (8–10 weeks from sowing).

  • Young turnips can be harvested small and tender; allow others to reach full size.

  • Pull gently and store in a cool, dry place.

Hardy, generous, and flavour-packed — Giant Italian ‘PT’ turnips are a traditional treasure for organic gardeners.
