A Hardy Heritage Favourite for Thick, Flavourful Winter Crops
Musselburgh’ is a traditional Scottish variety known for its thick stems, cold tolerance, and rich flavour. These organic seeds grow slowly but surely into sturdy leeks perfect for autumn and winter harvests — great for roasting, soups, and stews.


🛒 What You’ll Need:

  • Organic Leek ‘Musselburgh’ seeds

  • Seed trays or modules for starting

  • Peat-free compost or fine soil

  • Garden bed or raised bed for transplanting

  • Dibber or stick, watering can, mulch


🌿 Growing & Care Instructions

1. Sowing Indoors or Outdoors (Best Feb–Apr)

  • Sow 1cm deep in trays, pots, or seedbeds.

  • Sow thinly and cover lightly.

  • Keep moist and place in a bright, cool location.

  • Thin to strongest plants when seedlings reach 5–7cm tall.

2. Germination

  • Germinates in 10–21 days.

  • Transplant when seedlings are pencil-thick (around 15–20cm tall).

3. Transplanting

  • Make deep holes (15–20cm) with a dibber in your prepared bed.

  • Drop in one seedling per hole — do not backfill; water in gently to settle roots.

  • Space 15cm apart in rows 30cm apart.

4. Growing On

  • Water during dry spells and weed regularly.

  • Earth up or mulch to blanch stems (keep them tender and white).

  • Feed with an organic liquid feed if needed.

5. Harvesting

  • Harvest from October through March as needed.
